My Wedding Horror Story
It was thirteen days before the wedding. The previous two days had been spent selling as much as possible at our moving sale, and this day had been spent moving everything that hadn’t sold or had not yet been moved. Our friends Roy and Amanda heroically came to our rescue and lent their hands, mini-van, truck and trailer to help us. We had three moving destinations: First move to our new home 1 mile away, second move to the dumpster behind Samuel’s office, and the third move to my sister and brother-in-law’s home where I would be staying until the wedding.
The move went relatively well, and after unloading the last items at my sister’s, Samuel and I went back to our house to start unpacking.
I finally left for my first night at my sister’s at about 11pm. As I was driving, I realized that I hadn’t seen the big plastic bag in which contained my veil (made by my mom), and the rest of my wedding clothes since I had left it in the closet at my old house.
The first thing I did when I got there was to look for it. Not finding it in my car or at my sister’s, I immediately called Samuel in a panic- knowing that it wasn’t at our new house either. We ran through a few possibilities and he called those whom had helped us move – no one knew.
Horror struck as we realized where it must be.
I drove quickly to Samuel’s office, when I got there he was standing on the sidewalk holding the bag – I was so relieved to see it. Sure enough, it had been thrown in the dumpster. As I calmed down and started to look through it, I realized that the veil was not in there!
I got in my car and raced to the dumpster, as I approached it, I could see the large, bunched up tulle with sparkling pearls and sequins sitting next to it on the ground amongst other bits of trash and dried leaves. I picked it up carefully and started picking off the bits of dirt and leaves; all the while muttering curses at the ants that were making it their playground.
Needless to say, it was more than a bride could handle less than two weeks before her wedding. Many tears flowed that night. I am also happy to say, however, that the veil was unharmed and looked beautiful thirteen days later.
