Los Recien Casados
Well, the wedding fever has mostly died down. It was a very extravagant wedding, a bit dampened by the rain. As the prince and his family were walking from the palace to the Almudena Cathedral, it started to rain. And it was pouring by the time the bride was to walk down the long red carpet. She had to be driven from the palace to the cathedral with her father by her side. She did, however, get to walk down the long isle in the church. She appeared very nervous – possibly contemplating all the expectations that now befell her as the future Queen of Spain!
After the 1.5 hour ceremony, the couple were driven down the main streets of Madrid which passes just 3 blocks from my house. I went down to see them drive by; but first had to go through two security checkpoints where I was frisked. I hadn’t even thought about the need to bring identification which both checkpoints “required.” But after a thorough search and hearing me say I was from the U.S., they let me through.
It was really exciting to see them drive past just about 10 feet in front of me ~ and they waved directly at me!
We heard about the “miel de la luna” (honeymoon) last week which included the royal couple attending another royal wedding in Jordan and touring around the north of Spain.
Our flatmate is an editor for Spain’s largest “celebrity gossip” magazine – she is a good source of knowledge for everything royal. Although the magazine sold out very quickly, she was able to save two for us – one in Spanish “Hola” and one in English “Hello Magazine.”
So now I have a commemorative souvenir including all the details!
