Granada
Last weekend we had the priviledge of visiting some friends from our church who were in Granada for the week. We were there Friday and Saturday and had a wonderful time exploring a little bit of the city, and the surrounding mountains, as well as spending time with our friends and being the recipients of their love!
We arrived by train, and were very thankful that it worked out that Josiah could sit in his car seat on the train the whole way.
There is so much to see in Granada. It was the last Moorish stronghold in Spain until 1492, after 700 years of rule, when the Catholic Kings conquered the city. As you may imagine much of the architecture is ancient beautiful. On Friday evening we stopped in a TeterÃa (tea house), hidden on a narrow, winding street. The interior reflected it’s ancient decor with beautiful carved archways and mosaic tiles.
On Saturday we drove into the mountains – The Sierra Nevada. Although I felt quite queezy much of the way up, it was worth it. What a beautiful landscape. We could actually see the mountain and ski resort town where we went from the window in our hotel room. Josiah had fun getting reaquainted with snow – probably the only snow he will see this winter!
In the afternoon we stopped by the Alhambra, a huge palace and gardens sitting atop a high hill overlooking the city. We didn’t have time to walk around inside, so we walked around the outside of it. It was very tricky navigating the stroller down the steep, cobblestone path. Thanks to Mike who pushed most of the way. Going back up was another challenge! Thankfully our way up was on smooth pavement, but it was long and steep. We all took turns getting a little work-out on that trip!
We definitely look forward to a return trip to Granada – so much to see! Samuel had actually visited there a couple of years ago and was able to take some incredible photos inside the Alhambra.

Hi Robyn,
That’s great that you got to spend some time with Mike. I can’t believe you walked around the Alhambra. As I remember it, those are very steep roads!
By the way, we’re back in the U.S. on furlough. We’ll be in Iowa till March if all goes well.
Love the pictures and account of your trip. Did you know that Mark Johnson and Tom Keppler were there also? No mention in either of your accounts of seeing each other.
Love ya.
