Josiah in The Hospital – II
Josiah was admitted with severe dehydration and infection (of unknown origin, but the burn is not infected) on Monday night. We spent two nights in the private hospital (which was nice and provided each of us with a bed); but he became very swollen overnight and needed to be transferred to the Children’s Hospital (a public hospital) on the same campus where he had been initially treated for the burn.
He is still miserable and in so much pain – moreso now that his whole body is swollen making the skin everywhere – especially at the burn site – very tight. We are awaiting test results that will hopefully give clues as to why he swelled (due to the IV fluids, or due to the burn?)
Thankfully he hasn’t had a fever for almost 24 hours now, but he is still refusing to take anything by mouth. One question on our list is how long he can go without eating before they need to put in a feeding tube (it’s been more than four days since he’s had any food in his stomach).
We are grateful that we can be with him 24 hours a day, and our community here is taking good care of us and doing all they can to support us.
I came home to get some rest before going back tonight – we will try to share a blow-up mattress on the floor in his room.
We miss our little boy.
Thank you for your prayers
