37 Weeks – Preparing for labor and birth!
I made it to “term!” Not that I had any concern of having pre-term labor, but it is good to be past the danger of prematurity which we experienced with Josiah. It is also notable as we have now officially been Spanish residents for two years which is required for us to qualify to receive the government grant given to women giving birth in Spain. This money will certainly come in handy to cover our expenses for childbirth classes, a new stroller, new bed, etc.
I’ve been busy nesting, and occasionally resting. The past few days I’ve felt a LOT more heartburn, a lot of contractions (though nothing too uncomfortable), and some nausea. A wonderful Chicken Curry dinner made by our friend Jonah Friday night, unfortunately didn’t agree with me several hours later and I ended up having to try to sleep upright on the couch.

She hasn’t “dropped” yet, but I am feeling more bladder pressure and occasional sharp pressures between my legs. My pelvis and lower back are getting more achey, too.
My friend Helen asked me today what it’s like to wait for something you know will come, but don’t know when. Tough to answer that. I haven’t completed everything on my list of things to do before going into labor, so I’m not really ready yet; and still have two and a half weeks before the due date, but also DO NOT want to have to be induced for any reason.
Some of the things I’ve been busy with the past month or so: I made a quilt for Isabela, and a bassinet out of a laundry basket, foam cushioning, a bed sheet and made a cover for the bed that matches the quilt. I also made a couple of changing pad covers that a thick piece of plastic (left overs from the flooring we put in at the office) will slip into; and three pair of washable breast pads. Check out the pictures below!
The hospital bag is as packed as can be, my records and birth plans are all in one place, baby clothes are washed, and the freezer is stocked with flavored ice, homemade popsicles, frozen washcloths and gel packs. I also have my “doula tools” set aside and have shown Samuel where everything is.
We still have some practicing to do together of comfort measures and labor and birthing positions, I feel pretty good about the breathing – don’t think we need to practice that. We still need to get tape for the video camera and a few other little things. We’re pretty much ready, but I don’t mind having some time to “relax” (with a 3-yr-old!?) before she comes.

Hi Roby,
Praise God all is going well!! Remember, God is good all the time even if your plans for delivery do not go as planned. The important thing is our precious Isabela arriving safely and healthy. Love seeing your “nesting” items; Isabela will have some very nice things for her first months. Praying for you and Isabela daily. Can hardly wait!!
Love, Mom
ALL your sewing projects are just beautiful robyn! What a different prenatal time this has been huh? You look so healthy! Like your mom, I am praying for Gods best for you all. Keep up the good work but do get that rest! It may be awhile before you get a chance again. : )
