Community
After many of our friends left recently, I was feeling a lot of loneliness and have been longing for people with whom I could develop good friendships. It’s a difficult culture here among English speakers. Most of those here long-term have been planted here by their companies – they have one or two kids and live in the suburbs and are very difficult to maintain friendships with due the different life stages and mostly the distance between us.
I’ve been hoping that I’d be able to meet some women my age, my life stage, who live in the city and plan to stick around awhile. This past week that hope has been fulfilled!
Last Sunday I met Rebecca and Olga. They now come to our weekly community group, live in the city, are close to me in age, and plan to stick around for awhile! We also met another young couple tonight at our community group who are planning to open an American style cafe featuring art and music. They are in the process of making a decision about where to settle – either Madrid or Barcelona. We’re hoping for Madrid!
God knows my loneliness, and I’m thankful that He’s brought new people in my life who have also been seeking friendships.
