Second Time Around
I am happy to announce that we are expecting our second child! I’m already 12 weeks and this is the first I’ve had (or taken) the opportunity to write about it.
I often think about what I want to write, but have finally taken advantage of the few minutes I have while Josiah is occupied by Samuel shaving his head.
Weeks 6 – 10 were pretty rough. No vomiting, but I felt pretty icky. One new symptom this time has been the simultaneous feeling of having to cough, sneeze, cry and burp. I feel better once I sneeze. That sensation has eased off a bit, now it’s more just a cough to sneeze sensation.
I was hoping I’d be feeling well again by now, and I’m happy to be better, but still pretty uncomfortable with lots of gas (pleasant, I know), very tired, and the latest has been a lot of sharp sacral pain.
Josiah is excited and most of the time says he wants a sister. He’s also looking forward to the present Samuel told him the baby will be bringing for him. He, too, wants to get the baby a gift – sometimes it’s a frog, sometimes it’s a bear.
Two of our close friends here are also expecting their babies – one due any day now, the other the end of May – so there is lots of baby talk and he gets to see how mommy’s belly will grow ahead of time.
One cute story I want to remember:
A couple of weeks ago I went in to get Josiah out of bed one morning. He now sleeps with a collection of “friends” with him every night including two frogs, a horse, a kitty, a little dog and a big dog. We usually chat a little bit as he wakes up more before he gets out.
He said, “Josiah give the baby Orient (the kitty).” He then pulled open the top of my shirt and stuffed the kitty inside. Then he said “Josiah has a baby, too!” as he unzipped his PJs and stuffed his frog (“Deida”) down to his belly before zipping it up again.
Deida stayed in his PJs croaking away all morning as Josiah proudly strutted, and at times waddled around patting his belly. With hands on his hips, he’d even stretch his back and groan now and then
I hope to be able to find another chunk of time soon when I can write about our first disappointing doctor visit.
Stay tuned!

What a cute story! I’m sure it’s a great experience to see pregnancy through the eyes of a child.
Can’t wait to see you next month!
Stay tuned for a dispointing story about a doctor!?! Or was that a story about a disapointing doctor … umm …
Glad to see you writing this stuff down – I should write down more of the funny things Josiah says to me. Here’s a simple one: today Josiah heard Robyn say she was going to call the bank. He then turned to look at us a bit confused and asked, “The bank talks?”
