Real Men Make Quiche
I want to take this opportunity to recognize my husband – as well as document what he did in the annals of history!
I must start by confessing that I am not much of a cook. Occasionally, I’ll get inspired and actually bake something – or cook something that requires more than just boiling water and stirring something. Although my efforts are seldom extraordinary, they were still beyond the comfort level of what my husband would do in the kitchen.
There have been times when I’ve asked him to make spaghetti, and have been met with the response, “how do I do that?”
But last week he outdid himself! I’m not sure exactly what it was that inspired it. Perhaps it was the French dinner our flatmate had cooked the night before, or the dozen eggs we had just bought. . . but something gave him the desire to make quiche for our friends the next night.
I didn’t argue, he was motivated! After getting the lowdown on how to do it from Isabelle, and a phone call home to mom for a recipe, he was pumped!
The next day he woke up early so he could work to prepare his recipe before he went to class (as he would not have time to do so after class).
There were a couple of doubtful moments which required a few more calls to Grandma and Mom, but in the end, it was a success! I wish I had had time to take some pictures, but we had to leave as soon as the quiches were out of the oven.
Our friends and I – and Samuel as well – were all very impressed.
He may still respond doubtfully the next time I ask him to make spaghetti, but at least he has a new confidence and talent in quiche-making.
