Holiday in Mallorca
We finally got away from the big, busy, often-smelly, very loud city of Madrid! Samuel and I finished our TEFL course (to teach English) on Friday, and on Sunday we took advantage of some really cheap flights and hotel and flew to the island of Mallorca of the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean.
Sounds romantic, huh? Well, the 3-star hotel was more on par with an outdated Motel 6, not that I am complaining!! The beach was beautiful, and I saw some beautiful sunrises and sunsets; and although we didn’t have tropical weather, it was quite nice and much better than the 30-degree temps I’ve heard about in Michigan! It was also glorious to be able to take a long deep breath without choking or gagging!
It is now the “winter” season as far as tourism is concerned so our flight was very cheap (58 Euros each!! Round-trip!) as was the hotel which included meals (not the greatest, but it was food.) We had planned to visit a Nature Park in the mountains on the island, but once we made it into the city (it is a big island with a big city) bus station, we found out that it would be a 3 mile walk from the last bus stop to the park. Then we decided to go out to “Festival Park” which is a brand new outlet shopping center with 20 screen movie theater. We had been told that they should have some “Original Version” movies there.
The trip to Festival Park was nice because we took a train out of the city. It was beautiful. We didn’t quite hit the mountains, but had a nice view of them. The place was very nice, lots of great restaurants and very few people. Unfortunately, out of 20 screens, only one was “O.V.” and the movie they were showing in English was “Two Rebel Cops II” (we think in the U.S. it’s called “Bad Boys II” with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.) We didn’t think the trip was worth sticking around for the movie, so we went back to the beach where we were staying and sat at a little “snack shack” on the beach reading our books until the sun set. The weather was gorgeous on our last day. Clear skies all day! We walked along the beach and played in the waves of the crystal blue – albiet a bit chilly -Mediterranean Sea.
It was a wonderful, relaxing, early anniversary vacation.
