New Year’s Eve in Madrid
It’s 5 hours till 2004! Samuel and I have been sick for the past four days and are trying to mentally, physically and emotionally prepare ourselves to walk to Puerta Del Sol where thousands of others will ring in the New Year. The gathering is comparable to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. My guess is even if we do go down there, we’ll probably be on quite the outskirts of Sol due to the crowds. Personally, I’d rather stay at home, but I also don’t want to welcome in the New Year without someone to kiss! (Especially since we’re both already sick – probably with the same virus – kissing someone else would be a health hazard to them
Isabelle and two of her friends are frantically busy in the kitchen preparing a huge buffet for 15 – 20 guests. Though I can’t smell much, I did get a strong whiff of fresh cilantro…mmm! I fear, however, that garlic is also involved in the meal (Garlic does not agree with me).
We’ve spent the past week relaxing, sleeping, blowing our noses and coughing – nothing very exciting. We did manage to get outside on this beautiful, sunny, 60 degree day and go for a walk through the Botanical Gardens. They aren’t much to look at in the winter, but in just a few months, they will be gorgeous!!
So, there it is: the end of 2003. We achieved our goal of moving to Madrid, and for that we are happy. Now if we can just learn to speak the language…
