- No more diapers!
Josiah has reached a notable milestone: no more diapers! And on Tuesday, we took a trip to IKEA to celebrate (it’s air conditioned, included a bus ride and a taxi ride, has a restaurant with 1€ kids’ meal, and lots of cool toys and furniture to play with, plus we brought Mara with us, so [...]
- 30 Weeks: Photos
Here we are at 30 weeks! Photos taken Saturday, June 7 2008.
- Three!!
Josiah turned THREE yesterday, June 4! We had a lot of fun enjoying the day and his “bigness” with him. He wanted to go to a “french fry” restaurant, so we rode our bikes to the closest Burger King where he opened some gifts, had a special meal and played in play area. He opened [...]
- Josiah’s Prayers
We’ve been praying almost 3 months now for Baby David, and Josiah has learned that when someone is sick or hurt we pray that Jesus will heal them. This morning his babysitter called to say she wasn’t able to come today because she had just had an infected tooth pulled and was still in a [...]
- A bit more time!
Oh how I have neglected my blog/journal, and yet all the while have craved the time and opportunity I needed to document the meaningful and notable events of our lives! Our days have been full and busy, productive and exhausting. . . caring for Josiah, housework, community responsibilities and maintaining relationships keep us occupied enough; [...]
- Big Boy Bed
Tonight we made the transition to the “big boy bed” by converting Josiah’s crib. About a week ago he discovered a new “trick.” I heard him calling me from his room so I walked in to find him in his crib, but I knew that neither Samuel nor I had put him there. He was [...]
- Second Time Around
I am happy to announce that we are expecting our second child! I’m already 12 weeks and this is the first I’ve had (or taken) the opportunity to write about it. I often think about what I want to write, but have finally taken advantage of the few minutes I have while Josiah is occupied [...]
- Feliz Navidad 2007
I’ve been absent from my blog for a looong time! Busy, busy, busy! October was overflowing with guests and activities; November was a month of recovery and catch-up and December has found each of suffering our turn at various illnesses, more than once. So today it is Christmas. Many people have asked what we’ll do [...]
- More ways to keep cool.
Mmmmm, chocolate ice cream sandwiches are cool. Going to the park at night is cool(er). Playing in the sprinklers at the park is cool! And playing fútbol in the shade while wearing a wet bathing suit and water wings is pretty cool, too!
- Our budding musician
Josiah had fun playing the piano at our friends Juan and Inma’s house last week after a refreshing swim in their neighborhood pool. He’s quite good, isn’t he?
- Keeping Cool
Josiah had fun playing with the water at the pool we went to with our friends last week. I wish we could go there today, it’s 107º outside!! We had fun and stayed cool at a mall outside of the city a couple of weeks ago. In this video Tiffany and Josiah go for a [...]
- Josiah’s prayers
Every night we have the same bedtime ritual with Josiah. Samuel helps him brush his teeth and wash up, then we get him into his pajamas and Samuel reads him a story. Then Josiah calls for me and we say prayers together. We always start with the question “What should we thank Jesus for today?” [...]
- A Fun Week
Josiah and I had a great time with Heather and Sophia last week. Here are a few highlights of our time together at the home of our friends while they were away. Although Josiah seems to have lost his fondness of the water, he did have lots of fun in the sand! The kids had [...]
- Little Gardeners
We’re having fun at our friends’ home near the beach while the daddys are traveling in Morocco. Today Josiah and Sophia worked hard doing some gardening. Watering Digging
- Cumpleaños Feliz Josiah!
We celebrated Josiah’s second birthday at Parque del Alamillo on Saturday. It was a lot of fun! His girl friends Sophia, Mara and Tiffany were there, as well as his friends from our neighborhood park, José and Rafael and their parents. We had sandwiches, cookies, chips, candy, cake and drinks. A couple of our Spanish [...]
- Two Deidas
Despite our efforts to hide the “back-up” Deida, Josiah found him! He wasn’t upset, he was delighted to have two! But we’ll be keeping just one out at a time.
- Drummer Boy
Josiah recently had fun playing with his friend Nico’s drum:
- Hippy Fair!
We had fun attending the “Encuentro Alternativas” Festival this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Aka – “The Hippy Fair.” I even had the chance to visit with a couple at the El Parto Es Nuestro booth – I recognized them from the meeting I had attended in February. And Samuel had an interesting conversation with [...]
- Grandma comes for a visit.
Grandma Cindy arrived last week for a two-week visit. We’ve been busy having fun. Yesterday we walked to Parque Alamillo across the river – about 20 minutes walking. There were two different special “Ferias” going on at the same time. We heard lots of music including Middle Eastern accompanied by belly dancers and traditional Flamenco [...]
- Our resident musician
Josiah LOVES music! Not only does he love to dance, but play and sing, too! Here is a sample of his music-making ability!
- The Power of Nursing
I wrote this on January 22, Josiah’s last night in the hospital. This experience really made me miss my profession of nursing. Partially because I wished I was in nurses’ position rather than the position I truly found myself in. Almost every action or lack of action from the staff moved something in me: either [...]
- Celebration!
On Friday our friends threw Josiah a party to welcome him home and to celebrate his healing. We hid in our room as friends decorated the living room. Josiah was in awe as he walked in to see balloons, streamers and colorful stars everywhere! What is a party without dancing!? (Though Josiah did get a [...]
- Josiah at home.
We’re slowly getting back to normal here – though not there yet. We still have unpacking to do, things to clean, a burn to care for and now a constantly runny nose often preceeded by frequent sneezes that resists wiping. Grandma Cindy left this morning, and as she was packing last night Josiah thought he’d [...]
- Josiah in The Hospital – Finally Some Good News!
Update for Monday, January 22. Very good news! Josiah was transferred out of ICU Saturday night and is currently on the pediatric floor and doing much better! He got up to walk for the first time in a week yesterday and although he was unsteady at first he led us out the front door and [...]
- Josiah in The Hospital – IV
Yesterday was scary as we were told Josiah would need a platelet transfusion and a blood transfusion, which he had. We were also told that an ultrasound of his abdomen showed fluid and swelling, but it was not thought to be blood. Stool samples were negative for blood, thankfully. He did look better with less [...]
- Josiah in The Hospital – III
When I returned to the hospital we were able to talk to a couple of doctors whom we had asked to see (apparently it’s routine to see them only in the morning) – we hadn’t heard any results from the tests that had been done 7 hours earlier. I’m so glad we asked for them, [...]
- Josiah in The Hospital – II
Josiah was admitted with severe dehydration and infection (of unknown origin, but the burn is not infected) on Monday night. We spent two nights in the private hospital (which was nice and provided each of us with a bed); but he became very swollen overnight and needed to be transferred to the Children’s Hospital (a [...]
- Josiah in The Hospital – I
Our family is going through a lot at the moment. Josiah was burned on Friday (second degree over most of his chest) and on Saturday he got gastroenteritis (not a good combination) both of these conditions have lead to his becoming severely dehydrated. Unfortunately tonight he had to be admitted to the hospital to be [...]
- New Year’s Eve in a small town.
This year our friend Natalia invited our community to stay at her family’s home in their small town about 100 km north of Seville. Samuel and Josiah went with Bailey’s by car, and I joined the rest of the group to arrive by bus. It was a beautiful – though winding – ride. I love [...]
- Merry Christmas! A compilation of videos.
Here are a few videos from the past few days (including Christmas): Josiah and his frog (“Deeda”) play together in the laundry basket. Josiah and Sophia rearrange the cupboard. Taking a break for a little kiss! Stop three in our Christmas Eve Progressive Dinner was the main meal at Claire and Andrew’s. Josiah finds another [...]
- But the Phone is so Exciting!
Josiah jabbers on his “phone” (in this episode the phone is played by an Eglish-Spanish translator), gets a little carried away and finishes with a surprise. FYI: No electronic devices were harmed in the making of this video.
- Josiah Grooves
Josiah dancing and spinning in our living room this afternoon: FYI: No Josiahs were harmed in the filming of this movie.
- Josiah playing ball!
A recent video of Josiah playing with the neighbor kids on our patio! Enjoy
- Phone and Spanish
Today was a good day. We finally got a phone line established, which was the first step in getting us closer to getting DSL. Samuel put in the order for the DSL and hopefully we’ll be online in a few weeks! It’s been hard having to go several days between internet times! I also scheduled [...]
- Josiah chasing kitty.
More video! This is more fun than writing!
- Fun At the Beach
Another video! This was taken two weeks ago at the beach north of Valencia, Spain. (The quality is much better when it’s played than the still picture you see here.)
